Pass the time as you wait for the bus or plane. If you’re at a Sheetz, you can pay with Bitcoin.

Sheetz, a regional convenience store chain that operates in eight states including Pennsylvania, is planning to accept bitcoin and cryptocurrency payments beginning in July, the company told CoinDesk on Monday.

Before, Sheetz would only accept payment in cash or cards. But now, with the acceptance of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, customers can pay with digital money. In the future, Sheetz could accept more virtual currencies, or even conduct transactions in Bitcoin.

According to an announcement, popular US regional convenience store Sheetz will begin accepting payments in digital currency this summer. Mid-Atlantic will use the digital payment network Flexa to accept Bitcoin, Ether, Dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies. Linda Smith, head of payments at Sheetz, explained the move and the partnership: We are constantly developing and exploring new offerings to give our customers what they want, when they want it, 24 hours a day, 365 days a week – which includes accepting many forms of payment. We are very excited to be working with Flexa to introduce support for cryptocurrencies and other types of digital assets in our stores. Customers will be able to pay for items in-store and for gasoline with digital currency. Sheetz has 622 stores in Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Maryland. The company plans to start with some of its Sheetz cafes this summer, and expand to Sheetz-owned pumps later in the year. Flexa offers its customers guaranteed billing for all payments and flexible integration into existing networks. Speaking about accepting payments in digital currency, Trevor Filter, co-founder of Flexa, said: As interest in digital currencies reaches unprecedented heights, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that merchants who accept them enjoy real, tangible benefits – not just reduced fraud and cost savings, but also a better, more mobile customer experience. The partnership also includes the use of NCR’s point-of-sale (POS) solution. Flexa will connect with NCR to provide tamper-proof authorization. By connecting an existing POS solution to NCR’s payment gateway, retailers can quickly integrate new solutions, enabling new innovations with digital currency, said Tim Vanderham, CTO of NCR. For retailers, integration reduces the risk of fraud, lowers costs and increases customer loyalty, he added.

Sheetz

Sheetz Inc. was founded in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The company operates more than 600 convenience stores. Sheetz’s menu includes sandwiches and salads ordered via touch screen POS terminals. Customers who want more information about Flexa can visit the official website or download the Flexa app at flexa.app.

Flexa

Founded in 2008, Flexa is a leading provider of digital-only payment solutions. The company says it offers merchants and developers simple integrations to accept digital currencies that are fast, affordable and completely fraud-proof. Other applications currently using Flexa include the popular Gemini cryptocurrency exchange and the SPEDEN asset storage solution. Earlier this month, Flexa partnered with payment provider Aurus to use AurusPay, a unified payment platform that gives retailers and other businesses access to alternative payment methods. Flexa also recently introduced a button to pay with Flexa. Like all Flexa payments, online transactions with Flexa are authorized and guaranteed in less than a second, according to the press release.

NCR

NCR Corporation, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, provides software and services to the retail, financial and hospitality industries. About its retail point-of-sale solution, the company says it offers a cloud-based retail point-of-sale platform that integrates and manages your stores, from checkout to payments to the back office and more.As the use of cryptocurrency in the retail sector continues to rise, Sheetz is set to become the latest convenience store chain to announce it will accept crypto payments..
